What are we looking for:

We are seeking a self-motivated Engineer, who is passionate about delivering value, is forward-thinking, and excited to see the successful implementation of the products delivered.

As an Associate Software Engineer, you will:

  • Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, operations engineers and engineering leadership to uncover difficulties and opportunities to deliver new business value through software and accelerate the delivery of the same through platforms

  • Prototype and build new functionality to deliver on key product objectives

  • Deliver an outstanding user experience to our customers, through products and services with strong and extendable architectural design

  • Guide the development of engineering staff within your team

  • Maintain and support these services, with accountability for production reliability and usage, and functionality

  • Participate in an agile delivery model in partnership with various product enablement teams

  • Influence and lead discussions with our strategic vendors to advance our platforms and deliver value sooner

  • Work with lead Engineers to collaborate with our Architecture team realizing the strategic vision of Manulife’s technology stack

You will bring and continuously build upon the following skills:

  • A spirit and comfort working within a constantly evolving environment

  • Familiarity (2+ years) with agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features

  • Developing junior engineers and a passion for growing staff within the organization

  • Experimenting with new technologies and understanding how they will affect what comes next

  • A capacity for constant learning from both success and failure, remaining open to change and continuous improvement

  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities that enable you to handle creative abrasion

  • Strong verbal and written communication with the ability to effectively articulate and communicate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes across all levels in the organization

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of investment products, securities and/or financial services in support of our service or product offerings (or are ready to learn by doing!)

  • Experience with any of GraphQL, microservices architecture, Azure (Azure Data Factory, Azure Logic Apps, AKS), OOP is an asset

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role in the primary location of Waterloo, Ontario is expected to be between $58,100.00 CAD - $107,900.00 CAD.

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
